Introducing the last September Athlete of the Month, Carter Miller! Carter has been playing football at MV for 3 years and has spent the last 2 years on Monta Vista’s Varsity Football team. As a team captain, Carter has made an impact in nearly every part of the game. On offense, he totaled 460 rushing yards while averaging 5 yards per carry on 18 carries per game, along with 4 receptions. He also scored 4 touchdowns this season, including a kick-return touchdown during the Homecoming game. On defense, Carter recorded 20 tackles while helping lead the team on both sides of the ball. More than just his production on the field, his leadership as captain has made him an important part of the team throughout the season. Congratulations to Carter on an amazing month!
Our next September AOTM is Genevieve To! Genevieve has been playing club field hockey for 5 years at San Jose Fly and is on her second year of playing varsity at Monta Vista.
In one of her most recent games against Cupertino High School, Genevieve led the team in dodges (23), carries (16) and shots on cage (3). As well as 16 total recorded steals.
Genevieve’s favorite memories from hockey was the team’s win against Lynbrook High School (2-0) and all of the team froyo runs after games.
Also being the only junior varsity captain, she has proven to be a great player on and off the field with her skills, teamwork, and leadership. We look forward to see more of her success in field hockey in the following years.
Congratulations to our first September Athlete of the Month, Ivan Hon! Ivan is a junior on the boys water polo team and has made a strong start to the season. He leads the Matadors with 17 goals, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Whether he’s scoring or setting up a teammate, Ivan makes an impact every time he’s in the pool. Congratulations, Ivan! Keep up the great work this season!

From guarding the goal in St. Louis in 1994 to coaching the next generation of Matadors!
These throwback photos are from a Homecoming weekend game back in 1994, when she was a field hockey goalie.
Years later, she brought that experience to Monta Vista and spent 9 years coaching MV Field Hockey!
We love finding out about the athletic backgrounds of the people who make up our MV staff — especially when their playing days eventually brought them back to the sidelines as a coach!

Congratulations to former @montavistafb player, Emiliano Rodriguez (class of 25). Emiliano is now the starting punter for Portland State, a division 1 football program. Emiliano also played soccer while at MVHS! Great work, Emiliano!
