The 2018 Matador Golf Team, after losing 3 senior starters, is hard at work building skills and experience this season. Senior team captain Tiffany Chen is a 4 year veteran whose steady play serves as a guidepost for the young Matador team. Sophomore twins Kate Yiu and Sonny Yiu are returning for their second season and are impressing their match opponents with their team-leading scoring. Senior Makayla Reid returned from the off-season as a solid driver of the ball and starts for the team this year. Freshman starter Rachana Ajjarapu came on board the first week of the season and has ramped up quickly. Reserve match players include juniors Laasya Koduru, Somya Shah, and sophomore Claire Wen. Freshmen Parmi Shah, Prisha Tiwari, and Ritvi Ranka round out this year’s Matador roster.

Approaching the midway point of the season, the Matadors have faced tough competition at challenging away courses. While not yet bringing home a win, Matador golfers are meeting the challenges of fast greens, steep bunkers, and tangly fescue with consistent effort and positivity. Yesterday in their 5th match, Monta Vista hosted Saratoga at Sunnyvale Muni. Saratoga came away the victor, led by medalist Janelle Jin who fired a par 35. Low scores for the Matadors- 42, 43, and 44- were posted by Kate Yiu, Sonny Yiu, and Tiffany Chen respectively. Other Matador scores: Makayla Reid, 50; Rachana Ajjarapu, 54; Claire Wen, 63. The team moves into the last four weeks of the season ready for a strong finish and gearing up for post-season play.
